American Ballet Theater

The other day i was asked and honored to begin to shoot images for American Ballet Theater… I went to the ABT building on Broadway and was able to shoot 4 of the main principle dancers and rising stars of ABT.. When i was younger.. my grandma used to take me to the ballet and opera at lincoln center. I was always entranced at the forms, physical perfection and control of dancers.
When i was just starting out i would go to the Joffrey ballet school and they would let me take pics of the young dancers in class. i would spend many days off in awe taking pics of them ( i will find those old pics and post them) Over the years I have been able to attend performances by Cunningham, Bill T. Jones, Twyla Tharp and many more.. when i first began shooting fashion.. I used to do my castings and request my models have some dance background. there is a great difference in a dancers understanding of their body and how it moves through space.. also u never need to worry abut the hands and feet positioning of a subject that has that dance background…
